Doctors at Ruijin Hospital saved a young woman whose burns covered 100 percent of the body with third degreed burns over 94 percent. The patient , who was a lab assistant at a Shanghai factory, got burnt in an accident.

For a patient with burns over so large an area, the most difficult problem is skin-grafting ( 表皮移植 ) which , however, was successfully done in a period of three weeks, each time over a part of the body.

To prevent the patient from infection , the walls and floor of the rooms where she stayed were washed every day to be kept germ-free ( 无菌的 ) . The moisture were removed from the air with a drying machine to keep the patient’s wounds dry. Two rooms were used in turn---- one at a time.

Before long, the new skin began to grow well all over her body. Helped by nurses, she started to practise walking.

The hospital has treated several thousand cases of burns, of which this one is the most serious.

Let me tell you something about the basic courses in American high school. In American high school, most students take English, science ,maths and history. These are called basic courses and each of them is as useful as the others are.

In English class, the American students study grammar and read famous literature ( 文学作品 ). In science class, they study biology, chemistry or physics and so on. History is more interesting to some students because they learn about important and significant ( 有意义的 ) events and places in the United States of America in history.

Jimmy was good at breaking safes open. He was caught by the police, and put in prison for ten months. When he was set free, he made up his mind to stop breaking safes and live in another town. One day, a young man was selling some T-shirts in the street. He was shouting:“Have a look at these T-shirts. They are nice and cheap. Each one is only 10 yuan.”People all walked past him, but nobody wanted to buy one because there were some Chinese words on the T-shirts. And they didn’t like them at all. The young man was very sad.
