¡¡¡¡If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak, when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory£¨¼ÇÒ䣩works in the same way.

¡¡¡¡When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance(»ú»á) to become strong.

¡¡¡¡If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know hat it is his own fault(¹ý´í). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed(Ôð±¸), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember thing, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is the whole time being exercised.

¡¡¡¡In Europe many people died during the Second World War. As a result, at the end of the war there were many orphans(¹Â¶ù) there. A man called Hermann Gmeiner wanted to help these children. We are already familiar with computers-computers work for us at home, in offices and in factories. But it is also true that children today are using computers at school before they can write. What does this mean for the future? Are these children lucky or not?

Many people who do not know about computers think of them as machines that children play with. They worry that children do not learn from experience(¾Ñé) but just from pressing a button and that this is not good for them. They think children are growing up not knowing about the real world.

But people who understand more about computers see that computers can be very good for children. A computer can help them to learn about the real world more quickly, to learn what they want to learn and to think for themselves. And for the future, don¡¯t we need people who can think clearly, who know how to get information(ÐÅÏ¢) quickly and use et well?

Basketball is still a young game. It is not yet a hundred years old, in the winter of 1891, a certain college(ѧԺ) was having trouble with its boy students the weather was so terrible that the students had to stay indoors(ÔÚÊÒÄÚ). Wince they could not enjoy their sports outside as usual, they were unhappy, and some of them even got into fights from time to time.

Finally, one of the teachers at the college, J. E. Naismith, was asked to invent(·¢Ã÷) a new game for the students it was not an easy job because such a game had to be played indoors, and the court(³¡µØ) was not very large.

Naismith thought for a few days and invented a kind of the ball. It was played between two teams.
