Passage Three:

Tina’s problem

Dear Dr Helper,

I’m a Grade 9 student. I am now in great need of your help because I can hardly

 stand the great pressure.

Every day I have to stay at school for nine hours to have lessons and spend at least three to four hours doing my homework at home. We teenagers enjoy playing, but we hardly have any time to do what we want to do. Besides, we often don’t have enough sleep. Even worse, I fell alseep in my math class. How I wish I could have a good sleep!

It seems that the pressure comes from exam, too much homework and the high expectation from the parents. We are often told that if we don’t do our best won’t have the chance to go to university.

I write the letter only to wish that I could have somebody to talk to. I’m not sure what to expect. I am looking forward to your advice.

                    Yours sincerely

                               Tina

Passage Four

Dear Tina,

I’m sorry to hearthat you’re tired these days.

The problem is that you should learn to relax yourself, like listening to light music, talking with friends and doing exercise. It’s not necessary for you to spend all the time studying. I’m sure you can study better after relaxation.

You also need to plan your time carefully. It’s true that you can’t go to university if you don’t work hard. That’s the chance you can’t miss. All the hard work will be rewarded in the future. Maybe talking with your teachers is helpful.

I hope you’ll achieve your dream if you study that way.

Best wishes!

                                Yours Dr Helper

My problems

1

Dear Mother,

Every day I have to stay at school for nine hours to have lessons and spend at least three to four hours doing my homework at home. We hardly have any time to do what we want to do. Besides, we often don’t have enough sleep. Even worse, I ‘m often sleepy in class. How I wish I could have a good sleep!

I think I can watch TV twice a week so that I’m not too stressed out. Doing a little housework may be a good idea to make me relaxed. I can help you sweep the floor. In my free time, I should be allowed to rerad books to open my mind. Needless to say , I’ll work hard to chieve my dream..

I am looking forward to your advice.

                                  Your daughter

2

Dear Father:

I think we have trouble communicating with you these days. So I want to talk with you in this way. As you know, I’m busy with studying these days. Too much homework makes me tired. To be honest, I really want to cry because your rules are too strict. I think I should be allowed to watch TV twice a week. And don’t ask me to sweep the floor every day, though I don’t mind doing that. I really need time to relax myself. I won’t let you know. Of course, I know that you love me . But I hope we can be good friends.

  Best wishes!

                                 Yours

                                 Lily

3

Dear parents,

You are strict with me and I have trouble getting on well with you. Now I want to tell you my thought. You always make many rules for me. For example, I can’t watch TV, and I mustn’t sweep the floor. You say the only thing that I should do is to study, which really make me sad. I have my hobbies. I also need time to relax myself instead of studying all the time.Everyone should spend time doing exercise every day. I really hope you can understand me.
