China hopes S. Korea staying stable
China hopes the political situation in the Republic of Korea remains stable, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao in Beijing on Friday.
The South Korean National Assembly stripped(剥夺) President Roh Moohyun of power on Friday by passing the first ever impeachment(弹劾、指责) bill against a president.
In response to a related question, Liu said this is an internal matter for the ROK. Amid(在……之中) loud shouting by opposition and heavy clashes(冲突) between lawmakers, National Assembly Speaker Park Kwanyong announced the result at around 03:00 GMT.
He said 195 lawmakers of the total 271member parliament attended the ballot(投票), 193 voted for, while the other two voted against. Opposition parties take majority numbers in parliament.
According to rules, the bill was affirmed when two thirds of the 271 lawmakers voted for it.

Let's face it—English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant(茄子)norham in hamburger;neither apple nor pine in pineapple.English muffins(松饼)weren't invented in England or French fries in France.Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.
We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradox(似是而非的说法),we find that quicksand(流沙)can work slowly, boxing rings are square and guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is a pig.
If teachers taught,why didn't preachers praught?If a vegetarian eats vegetables,what does a humanitarian eat?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can a person be“pretty ugly”?
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy(荒谬)of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down,in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm clock goes off by going on.Why is a “crazy man”an insult(侮辱),while to insert a comma and say“crazy, man”is a compliment(as when clapping for a Jazz performance).
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race(which,of course, isn't a race at all). That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch,I start it,but when I wind up this essay,I end it.

D. Sweetmeats are sweet meat while sweetbreads are not sweet at all.
62. We can learn that the author of this passage .
A. is interested in the structure of the English language
B. takes the paradoxes in English for granted and never pays any attention to them
C. does not know what a humanitarian eats

In the Caucasus(高加索)region of the Soviet Union, nearly 50 out of every 100000 people live to celebrate their 100th birthday, and many don't stop at 100!By comparison,in American only 3 people out of 10000 reach 100.But these Soviet old people aren't alone. The Pakistani Hunzas, who live in the Himalaya Mountains and the Uilcabambans of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, seem to share the secret of long life, too. These peoples remain healthy in body and spirit despite the passage of time. While many elder persons in industrial societies become weak and ill in their 60s and 70s,some Georgians, aged 110 to 140,work in the fields beside their gre at greatgrand children.Even the idea of aging is foreign to them, when asked,“at what age does youth end?”most of these old people had no answer.Several replied,“well, perhaps at 80”,the very youngest estimate was age 60.
What accounts for this ability to survive to such old age,and to survive so well? First of all, hard physical work is a way of life for all these long lived people. They begin their long days of physical labor as children and never seem to stop.
All these people get healthful rewards from the environment in which they work. They all come from mountains regions. This reducedoxygen environment makes the heart and blood vessel system stronger.
Another factor that may contribute to the good health of these people is their isolation. To a great extent, they are separated from the pressures and worries of industrial society.Inherited factors also play some role.
63. Why does the writer mention some longlived people in the first paragraph?
A. To surprise his readers.
B. To introduce the subject of the article.
C. To tell you the difference between people in the Soviet Union and America.
D. To tell you why Americans don't live as long as other people.
64. How many factors that contribute to long life of the people are mentioned in the article?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
65. Whom does the underlined word“they”refer to in Paragraph 2?
A. Old people in the Soviet Union. BThe Pakistani Hunzas.
C. All of the longlived people. DSome Georgians.
66. From the writer's viewpoint,industrial society .
A. is highly developed and beneficial to people
B. is a great advance in human history
C. is full of pressures and therefore bad for people's health
D. should be replaced by isolated environment because it is bad for people's health
67. Which of the following is true according to the article?
A. It is beneficial for people to be isolated.
B. People should learn to relax themselves from high pressures of life in industrial society.
C. The more hard physical work you do,the more healthy you will be.
D. The more remote areas you live in,the more healthy you will be.

There are three kinds of goals:shortterm, mediumrange and longterm goals.Shortterm goals are those that usually deal with current activities, which we can apply on a daily basis.Such goals can be achieved in a week or less,or two weeks,or possibly months. It should be remembered that just as a building is no stronger than its foundation, our longterm goals cannot amount to very much without the achievement of solid shortterm.Upon completing our shortterm goals,we should date the occasion and then add new shortterm goals that will build on those that have been completed.
The intermediate goals build on the foundation of the shortterm goals. They might deal with just one term of school or the entire school year,or they could even extend for several years.Any time you move a step at a time, you should never allow yourself to become discouraged or overwhelmed. As you complete each step, you will enforce the belief in your ability to grow and succeed. And as your list of completion dates grow, your motivation and desire will increase.
Longterm goals may be related to our dreams of the future. They might cover five years or more.Life is not a static thing. We should never allow a longterm goal to limit us or our course of action.
72. Longterm goals mean a lot .
A. if we complete our short term goals
B. if we cannot reach solid shortterm goals
C. if we write down the dates
D. if we put forward some plans
73. New short term goals are built upon .
A. two years B. longterm goals
C. current activities D. the goals that have been completed
74. When we complete each step of our goal, .

B. we are overwhelmed
C. we should build up confidence of success
D. D. we have strong desire for setting new goals

45. A be familiar with意为“对……熟悉、通晓……”。
46. D 从语法角度看可排除A、C两项。wage是指工人的工资,通常指给予短期工作者的报酬;而salary则指付给服务员、记者和牧师等的薪水。
47. C treat意为“款待、宴请”;wait常与on或at连用,意为“伺侯进餐”;serve意为“接待(顾客)”,如:There was no one in the shop to serve her.
50. C take photos with sb.
51. B satisfy sb.
53. B on her day off意为“在她休假的时候”。
59. C China's Manned Space Programme.

81. it改为them 此处代替名词trees。

One possible version:
Hi,Brian,
I'm glad you are interested in my hometown,New City, and I'm now giving you a brief introduction to it.
New City lies in West China. It is a new city growing with the Great West Development.Firstly, the city has been designed to high standards, with broad streets and roads.Everywhere is green grass, beautiful flowers and trees alongside modern style high buildings. So the environment is wonderful.Secondly, public facilities are advanced, which makes the life of the citizens more convenient, such as facilities for transportation, education, and medical treatment.Large shopping centers attract a lot of people every day but the streets are not crowded since the population is not large.Of course the city is just going on its way and things will get on smoothly.
Talk to you next time.
