　　Ping Yali was born blind in 1962 in Beijing. When she was 12, she became interested in sports. She practised hard and devoted herself to it. She even ran to school every day. In 1984 she took part in the third Paralympics Games and got the first gold medal for China in the long-jump competition. From 1988 to 1997, she worked in a factory. When she lost her job, she didn’t give up. Instead she set up a massage clinic in her own house. Because of her good service, the clinic soon became popular. Ping Yali, a person of great determination, sets a good example for all of us.

　　I went up to the lady immediately and asked if she would get off the bus at the next stop. Hearing that, the thief became nervous and took his hand back. I glanced at the lady’ s bag and the young man, showing that she should pay attention to him. The lady seemed to have understood me. When I got off the bus, I found the lady holding her bag tightly in her arms. I felt very happy.

3 　Some students think that it’s good to change the items . Putting too much emphasis upon modesty and simplicity will mean you will never be noticed by others . You might hesitate and lose many chances . In modern society , it is important to show yourself to others . Confidence and a good appearance help you make a good impression . So everyone should be confident and take the chance to show off their abilities .

Some other students don’t agree with it . Students should learn to live a simple life because they depend on their parents for food and clothing . They should also spend more time on their studies . As a student , studying is more important than the clothes he wears . As for modesty , an ancient Chinese saying reads : “Pride goes before a fall” .It tells us that if we are to be successful , we must learn to be modest first . Being modest will help us to learn more .

4 　In recent years the number of private cars has been increasing rapidly in our country. In 1990, there were about one million private cars. As time went on, the number of private cars went up to 5 million in 1999. Now there are more than 10,000,000 private cars in China.

As we know, a car is very convenient. We can go to any place more quickly. Besides, the increase of the number of private cars can help car industry develop faster.

However, more cars may cause more traffic accidents and more air pollution. What’s more, waste gases from cars can do great harm to our health.

I do hope people will pay enough attention to these problems.
