Hao Jinsong is facing a strong opponent(对手).So strong, in fact, that most others can do nothing but obey, but Hao doesn’t want to. He waits patiently for months, and then takes a sudden action.

Hao is a 33-year-old graduate student at China University of Political Science and law. He is bookish and not as strong as Schwarzenegger or as fast as Spider-Man. And the property he is fighting for goes for less than a bottle of water.

But, he has managed to become a real headache for his opponents—China’s railways.

And he sounds like a trouble-maker. Since last summer he has filed six lawsuits(诉讼) against the railways and Beijing’s subway. Hao has complained about some shops in the train station refusing to give him a receipt(收据),something that most passengers choose to give up.

“Id call myself a lawyer rather than a trouble-maker,” said Hao, explaining how he bad struggled for a receipt as preparation for his complaints on purpose. “That’s the softest part of a strong administration, the only part that an ordinary man can find fault with and attack legally,” he continued”. I just want to make this hole bigger so that consumers get what they should have”

The results haven’t been so bad so far. However, thanks to Hao’s effort, at Beijing’ s No.8 Subway line people now get a receipt after paying to use the toilet there.

“Chinese need a civic consciousness(公民意识).They need to know that they are the absolute equal of the government, which should serve the taxpayers”.

Some people say that Hao is selling himself via the media. Far from denying that, Hao admits that he’s good at taking advantage of news reports In fact, he rarely has enough time for classroom work. How the iron of tomorrow (the first Self Clean Iron) can change your lifestyle today?

General Electric introduces the iron of tomorrow. The iron can clean itself. Inside where irons get dirty. Because it cleans itself each and every time you empty it. How? With a push of a magic blue button.

The magic blue button

The first thing you’ll notice that’s different about this iron is the blue button on the side. It’s marked “Self Clean”. Push this blue button, and you can wash out loose mineral deposits(沉淀物) that remain and block up inside. Push this button, and you’ve made life a lot easier.

Less chance of brown spots

Sure, Self Cleaning Iron is going to cut down on brown spots (Those ugly spots that happen on nice, cleanly pressed clothes.) because a Self Cleaning Iron becomes clean each time you press that magic blue button.

Steams better longer

Common sense tells you that if you’ve got an iron that blocks less often it has to stay younger for a long period of time. In other words, it steams better longer. That’s another joy of owning General Electric’s Self Cleaning Iron.

What does it mean to you

Today you are doing so much more than just running a house and running after the kids. You’re working. You’re going to school. It’s all part of your lifestyle. The iron can change that lifestyle by giving you less trouble before you iron. If we can make it easier for you to be a better wife, a better mother, a better housemaker, we want to. The new Self Cleaning Iron is another one of Home-Makers from General Electric.

Lifestyle.

We’re with yours.

When I opened my e-mail the other day, a pretty woman named Rachel appeared on my computer screen. She greeted me by name and started talking with great enthusiasm. Every now and then she stopped to smile at me or blow a kiss. She was reading to me an e-mail from my brother. It was pretty cool.

Rachel was there thanks to a new technology called Facemail. Facemail lets you send an e-mail that gets read to the receiver on line by an attractive male or female or by a clown(小丑). The software, which is free, can be downloaded at www.facemail.com. Facemail faces are lifelike, and they simulate(模仿)emotions based on emotions that you put in your text. Type in: -X, and Rachel blows a kiss.

Life FX, the company that develops the Facemail, is sure there are broad business uses. The reason why e-business is not popular, the company says, is that buying over the Internet lacks the human touch. But what if you went to the Nike website and Michael Jordan greeted you by name, waited on you and personally closed the sale? And it is talking with Whirpool Company about using the technology in a computer screen on a fridge. Then if Mom can’t be home when the kids get back from school, she can leave a note with voice and image telling them what there is to eat.

Facemail could get hot fast. Personally, I’m a fan. Facemail is lively and funny at first, but if you select the clown, put a few rude words in an e-mail and add some angry emotions, you’ve got a crazy mail.

64. The main advantage of Facemail is that ________.

A. you can hire a beautiful woman to read the e-mail to you

C. you can put your own emotions in the e-mail as you like

65. We can infer from the passage that Facemail _______.

A. is likely to be used in other ways in our daily life

B. can destroy your e-mail if not properly used

66. The writer mentioned Nike website and Michael Jordan to show that ______.

A. famous people like Michael Jordan also like to use Facemail

B. Facemail can make shopping on the Internet more interesting

C. Nike company is increasing its sales through the fame of Jordan

D. Michael Jordan will serve you himself on Nike website

67. The writer thinks _______.

A. Facemail needs further improvement B. Facemail is cool and funny

C. Facemail is a danger to the Internet D. people should be careful with Facemail

                    D

No motive(动机)could be found. Cause of death could not be determined. Billions had been killed and the mystery puzzled all the detectives. The main problem was the lack of clues--after all, the crisis in question occurred over 350 million years ago, in the early Devonian era(泥盆纪), a good hundred million years before dinosaurs roamed the earth. The victims were tiny ocean animals---some 50% of all the creatures living in the ocean suddenly died and nobody knows why. Now Thomas Algeo, a geochemist at the University of Cincinnati, thinks he may have solved the case. The murderers, he says, were plants and trees. It was an accident, though, all the plants did was start to evolve (进化).

Algeo said: “About 410 to 400 million years ago land plants started to grow in kinds and they started to develop a lot of new structures that permitted them to grow in wider natural environment”

As plants evolved, using the energy from the sunlight to produce its own food and getting bigger, they began to spread out over the land. This in turn produced nutrient rich soil, which was washed into the sea. Thus, a large amount of dissolved nutrients were transported to the shallow ocean environment, producing seaweed, and they robbed the water of oxygen. These low oxygen conditions caused the demise of many ocean creatures. And this is the fundamental link between the earth and ocean environment.

Algeo was the first person to make the connection between the growth of plants on land and the death of the animals in the ocean, and he’s currently trying to get other scientists to accept his theory. There’s no way to know for sure if this is exactly what happened, but according to Algeo, the case of the Devonian deaths is closed.

68. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A. Murderous Plants B. Endangered Animals C. A Horrible Lesson D. A Fight for Oxygen

69. The underlined word “demise” in the third paragraph probably means ________.

A. growths B. escape C. deaths D. decrease

70. In the opinion of Thomas Algeo, ________.

A. there is no way to know what exactly happened

B. he has worked out the mystery

C. dinosaurs killed about 50% of the ocean creatures

D. he is the best ever detective in history

71. It can be inferred from the passage that _________.

A. connections are common in nature B. animals will surely die without plants

C. natural balance shouldn’t be destroyed D. the scientists will accept Algeo’s theory

Doctors say anger can be an extremely harmful emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that angry feelings can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.

Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm, reasonable way. Others burst with anger, losing control of themselves. But still other people control their anger. They cannot or will not express it.

For years many doctors thought that controlling one’s anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain lets out the same hormones(荷尔蒙)that are produced during tense situations. They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, and narrow the blood vessels. In general, the person feels excited and ready to act.

Doctors said that controlling theses feelings only makes the feelings continue. And this can lead to many medical problems. Doctors thought a person could prevent these problems by letting the anger out by expressing it freely. But recently some doctors held a different view. They said that people who express anger too often and violently did become, in fact, more and not less angry. They said this, too can cause medical problems.

Some doctors say that both controlling and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger strongly may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.

Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”

72. Controlling one’s anger was considered to be dangerous to his health because of all the following EXCEPT that .

A. the heart rate increases B. the blood pressure rises

C. the situation is becoming tenser D. the blood vessels become narrow

73. Which of the following is the more recent view about the expression of anger?

A. One is likely to suffer from high blood pressure in a fit of great anger.

B. One can avoid his medical problems by expressing his anger freely.

C. One’s heart rate will not change if his anger is kept unexpressed.

D. It is dangerous both to express anger violently and to control one’s anger.

74. When you get angry, which of the following should you do for the sake of health?

A. Controlling your anger and then studying its cause.

B. Letting out your anger freely and then studying its cause.

C. Studying its cause and waiting till it cools down.

D. Waiting till it has cooled down and then studying its cause.

75. Which of the following can best replace the title of the passage?

A. Different Ways of Dealing with Anger.

B. The Danger of Anger and Its Solution.

C. New Medical Discoveries about Anger.

D. An Argument between the New and Old Views about Anger.

As students,we often take examinations at school, but sometimes we have too many examinations which are too difficult for us.On the other hand, some of us are lazy and don’t work hard at their lessons. So when taking examinations, they sometimes cheat in order to get better results to please their parents and teachers.

In my opinion,it is wrong to cheat in examinations because it breaks the rules of schools. We students should be honest and try to get good results by studying hard instead of cheating in examinations. What’s more,we should improve our study methods and get well prepared for examinations.
