“How can I learn English well?” This is a question many students ask..In my opinion, the most effective way is to learn lessons by heart. If you can recite the text and write it out, you’ve learned it fairly well. And if you can tell, in your own words, what the lesson says you’re a very successful learner indeed. Your English will be quite perfect.
This is a difficult task. However, if you try to learn by heart only part of each lesson, you’ll find it not half so hard as you might have thought.
Learning this way, you will make rapid progress. Of course, writing is also necessary. It helps you a lot on our way to success in English.
Equally important is to feel the language. You should be able to laugh at jokes and be shocked at bad news. When using English, try to forget your mother tongue. Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way. So, never try to see English through translation.
41.In the writer’s opinion, the most effective way in learning English is ________.
A.to practise speaking, writing and feeling it
B.to forget your own native language
C.to translate everything into his own language
D.to memorize the English words and grammatical rules
42. “Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way.”This sentence means that memorizing your own language can ________.
A.help you to study English well B.stop you mastering English
C.make English easy to learn D.help you notice mistakes
43.Equally important is to feel the language. “to feel the language” here means________.
A.to get a knowledge of English by touching
B. to be able to read and write English
C.to translate English into your own by imagining
D.to be able to experience the rich sensation of the language

Female Chinese space pioneers?
CHINA plans to recruit(招募)women astronauts(宇航员)thanks to the lobbying of the leading women’s organization. Gu Xiulian, president of the All-China Women’s Federation(ACWF)(全国妇联), said on Saturday that she put forward a proposal that women be trained for space missions after the manned space flight last October. And it was accepted by the central authorities(当局,官方), local media reported. But the plan to recruit female astronauts has yet to be worked out, according to sources close to the astronaut training programme.
Beijing needs mental health care
MORE than 1,100 people committed suicide(自杀)in Beijing last year, and experts have been encouraging the capital to set up a mental health care system as soon as possible, local media reported last week. About 20 per cent of the people of Beijing live in unhealthy conditions, with 3 per cent of these suffering from affective disorder and 5 per cent reporting symptoms(症状)of depression, according to the Beijing Mental Health Service Centre.
No need to fear your licence plate
CAR licence plates in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, will not have the number ‘four’from this month on -a move that has led to heated discussion among officials, scholars(learned men)and residents. The word for ‘four’sounds like ‘death’in Cantonese. The numeral has been cleared away from the computer data banks that generate the six-digit licence numbers for local cars. How many hours are there left for you to do what you want after school? Do you think it's possible for someone to do all these things during his senior high school years: write songs, learn street dancing, ride a skateboard (滑板) and make telescopes and plane models by hand?
The answer is yes, and more. These things are not enough for Hoho (后弦), 26, who is now a singer, songwriter and producer. He has gone further. The physics major went to Guangzhou after graduating from Guangxi University in 2001. He started as a pub singer and then worked in an advertising company.
"Although I'm curious about almost everything, music has been my dream for years," said Hoho.
Now, with his first album "Antique-Play" (《古· 玩》) coming out, Hoho told 21st Century Teens that he is happy to do the music he likes. He wrote all ten songs himself.
Maybe because his mother teaches music, Hoho showed his musical talent when he started beating the milk powder tin (罐) as a drum when he was only two.
He won some prizes in child singing contests and formed several different bands at university. But it was the Internet that finally opened the door to fame.
Almost one year ago, he uploaded (上传) "Love's Way" (《桥段》) onto the Internet in a music chart contest. It was an instant success. The R&B song, containing traditional Chinese musical elements (元素), was on the top of the charts for six weeks.
Some people said he sang so well that they mistook his songs for Jay Chow's. Pirate (盗版) CD makers mixed his songs with Jay's and released a so-called "Jay Chow's Latest Album-Love's Way".
Chen Xuan, 17, from Hangzhou, has been a loyal fan of Hoho since he listened to his songs for the first time in March. He told Teens about another side of the singer. "Hoho is more like a friend to me rather than a singer," said Chen. Hoho even visits the fan club on for a chat about twice a month.
In Chen's eyes, Hoho not only sings well but is also very kind and humorous: "The way he chats is just like a boy of my age."
47. The author uses the questions in the first paragraph to _____.
A. ask the students whether they can do what they like in their spare time
B. make sure the students can sing, dance and play in senior high school
C. lead the students to take part in a variety of activities instead of studying
D. attract the readers' attention and introduce the main character
48. The sentence "He has gone further" means ____.
A. He has gone to a greater distance in space or time
B. He has developed any more interests as well as the listed above
C. He is no more than a singer, songwriter and producer
D. He is skilled in doing all the things listed above
49. _____ made Hoho well-known to the public.
A. Beating the milk powder tin as a drum
B. The prizes in child singing contests
C. The music he uploaded onto the Internet
D. Several different bands he formed at university
50. We can conclude _____.
A. your hobbies don't necessarily conflict with (与…矛盾) your studies
B. a successful person should always do whatever he wants during his high school years
C. you should not focus on your studies in university
D. copying a successful singer will help you succeed
51. Which statement is NOT true?
A. Perhaps Hoho's mother has a great effect on his career.
B. Hoho made himself famous in the name of Jay Chow.
C. Hoho sings so well that people mistake him for Jay Chow.
D. Hoho's R&B song is a favourite among music fans.

Nuclear-powered
aircraft carriers (航空母舰)
are considered one of the most important marine weapons in the 20th century. So
far, only two countries in the world - the USA and France - have ever produced
them. But these formidable (可怕的)
fighting machines are about to enter Asia.
The US Navy said last month
that one of its nine nuclear-powered aircraft carriers will be sent to Japan to
replace the diesel(柴油)-powered
carrier Kitty Hawk in 2008. In an agreement on October 30, the two countries
also plan to level up their military (军事的) cooperation and the
USA called for Japan to take a larger role in alliance military moves.
It will be the first time that a nuclear-powered carrier is based in Japan.
Bombed by US forces in World War II at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan is the
only world country to have been attacked by a nuclear weapon. Therefore, the
citizens are highly sensitive to where nuclear powered weapons are based.
"A radiation leak (泄漏)
at Yokosuka would kill 100,000 people as far away as Tokyo, and could cause
billions of dollars in damage," said Masahiko Goto, leader of a protest
group in Yokosuka. His group has collected more than 300,000 signatures (签名)
of people across Japan opposed to the nuclear carrier.
The 44-year-old Kitty
Hawk, the US navy's oldest active ship, has been based in Yokosuka since 1998.
It will return to the US to be decommissioned in 2008. The new carrier, yet to
be unveiled, will travel faster, be capable of supporting longer
operations and carry with it the Navy's most modern technology.
Experts pointed that this
change is not only to strengthen the US-Japan military alliance but also to
keep the military power of China and North Korea within limits. However, even
Japanese experts don't believe that the two countries are threats to the
region.
"There is no need for
Japan to have a nuclear carrier as defence," said Tetsuo Maeda, an
international relations professor at Tokyo International University. He said
that the change of ship indicates an increased military capability in the
region, much more than what is needed.
52. The replacement of the aircraft carrier is intended to _____.
A. show Japan's greater military
capability B. strengthen the US-Japan military alliance
C. get rid of the dated marine
weapon D. set up a kind of base in Japan
53. With such a formidable weapon to enter its country, Japanese citizens ___.
A. are against where the carrier
will be based
B. are anxious about its potential
danger
C. are curious about the advanced
technology
D. are aware of its benefits to the
country
54. The underlined word "unveiled" probably means ____.
A. produced B. discussed about C.
perfected D. brought to view
55. By his remark in the last paragraph, the professor means that _____.
A. he is quite confident of their
military defence
B. he is completely opposed to a
new nuclear carrier
C. what is needed is far more than
a nuclear carrier
D. it is unnecessary to guard
against the two countries

IT'S imagination that makes
the world colourful and people have never stopped trying to turn dreams into
reality. Among the thousands of inventions coming out every year, which ones
are the most amazing?
Time magazine said last week
that Snuppy, the first cloned dog, is the most amazing invention of 2005.
The five-month-old
Afghan puppy was cloned at Seoul National University in Korea by a 45-person
team led by Professor Woo Suk Hwang. Snuppy's genes are derived (得到) from a single cell taken from the ear of an adult Afghan,
rather than the egg (卵子) and sperm (精子) of a mother and father. The technique used to create Snuppy
was the same technique British researchers used to create Dolly the sheep, the
world's first cloned mammal (哺乳动物).
Time selects inventions each
year they believe may have a huge impact on our lives.
Other inventions listed in the magazine include a bicycle with a
hydrogen-powered (氢动力) fuel-cell engine, a
one-use video camcorder (可携式摄像机), and a
robotic cat that recognises speech commands.
Let's take a closer look at
some other great inventions of 2005:
Ever wonder why you feel
more tired some mornings than others? It may be because your alarm went off
when you were in the middle of a deep sleep. The Sleeptracker watch solves this
problem by waking you only when you are in a light sleep. Equipped with a
built-in sensor (传感器), the watch can tell
whether you are in a deep or a light sleep. To ensure the best waking-up time,
the watch allows a window of 20 minutes wake-up time. Sleeptracker's alarm will
go off when it senses that you are best ready to face the day.

Learning to ride a bike can
be very scary, but it doesn't have to be. Industrial designers from Purdue
University, USA, have invented the Shift tricycle (三轮车), where the rear wheels (后轮)
move closer together as the rider picks up speed, then separate for easier
balance at slower speeds or at a standstill (停止). A spring-loaded mechanism in the rear hub (毂) controls the rear wheels, and there are no spokes (轮辐) or exposed chain. The 25-pound aluminum (铝) trike won an international bike-design competition in Taiwan
this year.
