答案:A

答案:A

答案:A

It was the night before the composition was due.As I looked at the list of topics (题目),“The Art of Eating Spaghetti (意大利面条) ” caught my eye.The word “spaghetti” brought back the  21 of an evening at Uncle Alien’s in Belleville  22 all of us were seated around the table and Aunt Pat 23  spaghetti for supper.Spaghetti was an exotic (外来的) treat in 24   days.Never had I eaten spaghetti, and 25  of the grown-ups had enough experience to be 26  it.What laughing  27 we had about the 28  respectable method for moving spaghetti from plate to mouth.  29 ,I wanted to write about that, but I wanted to  30 it down simply for my own

31 ,not for Mr Fleagle,my composition teacher.  32 ,I would write something else.

When I finished it the night was half gone and there was no 33   left to write a proper composition for Mr Fleagle. There was no choice next morning but to 34  my work. Two days passed before Mr Fleagle returned the 35  papers. He said,“Now,class,I want to read you a composition,‘The Art of Eating Spaghetti’.”

My words! He was reading my words out  36 to the whole class. 37  laughed, then the whole class was laughing with open-hearted enjoyment.I did my best not to show  38 ,but what I was feeling was pure happiness,  39 my words had the power to make people 40 .

21.A.memory B.thought C.knowledge D.experience

答案:A

22.A.when B.where C.since D.after

答案:A

23.A.cooked B.served C.got D.made

24.A.their B.past C.last D.those

解析:in those days指“在当时”,相当于in the past。

25.A.none B.one C.some D.neither

根据“Never had I eaten spaghetti,and...”

答案:A

26.A.careful about B.good at

C.fond of D.interested in

27.A.speeches B.lessons

C.sayings D.arguments

答案:D

28.A.nearly B.naturally

C.officially D.socially

29.A.Especially B.Probably

C.Suddenly D.Fortunately

30.A.settle B.put C.take D.let

31.A.work B.story C.luck D.joy

32.A.However B.Therefore C.As for him D.Except for that

As for him 起承上启下的作用。

答案:C

33.A.time B.excuse C.way D.idea

答案:A

34.A.give up B.continue C.hand in D.delay

35.A.written B.graded C.collected D.signed

36.A.loud B.fast C.publicly D.calmly

答案:A

37.A.People B.Nobody C.Somebody D.I

根据下文“I did my best not to show pleasure”,可排除D。

38.A.shock B.wonder C.worry D.pleasure

根据下一句话“but what I was feeling was pure happiness”可知,作者尽力不表露“喜悦”的心情,但心里却乐开了花。

答案:D

39.A.if B.for C.while D.although

40.A.excited B.satisfied C.think D.laugh

B

If you have been joining in chat room conversations,or trading email with web pals (网友),you have become one of the millions who write in a peculiarly short form of English.

And you’ve got a sense of humor about short forms like SOHF (= sense of humor failure) to describe Internet newcomers who don’t understand you.

Across the globe, every night teenagers and their elders are talking online, many of them all talking at the same time.

It’s fast: try talking to six people at once. It’s brief: three or four words per exchange. It takes wit, concentration, and quick fingers.

And it requires tremendous linguistic economy (语言省略).There’s neither time nor space for explanations. Why consume precious key-strokes (键盘敲击) telling six friends you have to leave for a moment to take care of your little brother when BRB( = be right back) will do?

Want to enter a conversation?Just type PMFJI (= pardon me for jumping in).

Interested in whom you are talking to?Type A/S/L,the nearly universal request to know your pal’s age,sex and location. You may get 15/M/NY as a response from your pal.

If something makes you laugh, say you are OTF (= on the floor),or LOL (= laughing out loud),or combing the two into ROTFL ( = rolling on the floor laughing).

And when it is time to get back to work or go to bed,you type GTG (= got to go) or TTYL (=talk to you later).

People want to write as fast as possible, and they want to get their ideas across as quickly as they can.Capital letters are left in the dust, except when expressing emotion,as it takes, more time to hold down the “shift” key and capitals.Punctuation (标点) is going, too.

45.Many people talk on the Internet ______.

A.by sending short emails

B.by using a particular short form of English

C.by using peculiar English words and expressions

D.in a funny way

46.In order to talk to several people at the same time on the Internet ______.

A.you have to speak fast and fluently

B.you should speak with wit and humor

C.you have to express your ideas in a brief way

D.one should pay much attention to the accuracy of words

A项中的speak in fluently,B项中的humor,D项中的accuracy都不符合题意。

答案:C

47.If you get 17/F/NY as an answer to your A/S/L,it means______.

A.the person on the other end is 17 from New York and he is fine

B.you are talking to a girl who is 17 and lives in New York

C.you are talking to 17 girls who are from New York

D.the person who you are talking to is a 17-foot tall New York girl

48.To save time on the Internet,______.

A.some people leave their letters in the dustbin

B.some people never use “shift” in their writing

C.many people leave the capital and punctuation

D.people seldom use capital letters or punctuation

解析:“Capital letters are left in the dust”的引申义为:不用大写字母,“Punctuation(标点)is going, too.”

A

A graded reader is a book containing simplified languages used to help learners master the language. Readers come in different levels, from beginners to advanced. English learners need to choose a reader that is suitable for their level.

Why use readers? Lots of research shows that extensive(广泛的) reading improves all aspects of language learning, including vocabulary, speaking skills, fluency(流利), writing skills and reading comprehension.

Reading is a way of learning English without classes or a teacher. It helps develop learner independence. And while reading graded readers, learners don’t have to run to a dictionary because the language is at their level.

How do I get started? The entire class can read the same book or different books at different times.

How do I know the right level? If your class is all reading the same book, choose one that is appropriate for their level. If your students are reading different books, you can have a selection of books at different levels. In this case, don’t worry too much about the level. A learner who is interested in detective stories might read a higher level book if the motivation(动机) is there.

How to read the book depends on students” age, motivation and class time available. Some classes like to read silently, others like to read aloud in small groups and some enjoy being read to by the teacher. Be sensitive to the class and ask for their opinions.

Many people hurt their backs when they try to lift heavy things from the floor. It is easy to hurt your back muscles when you pick up a heavy object. However, there is a correct way to lift things form the floor. If you pick up big or heavy objects correctly, you probably will not hurt your back.

To lift something from the floor correctly, first bend your knees and squat down. Keep your back straight. Don’t bend over from your waist; keep your back and hips and waist in a line. If you bend over, the muscles in your lower back can become injured very easily. If you keep your back and hips straight, the muscles are stronger, because they have much more support. The other muscles can then help the lower back muscles.

As you squat down, try to get as close to the object as possible. For example, if you are going to pick up a heavy box, squat down directly in front of it; maybe you will have to spread your knees and legs. Put one knee on each side of the box. Remember at all times to keep your back straight.

Put your hands under the object that is in front of you, between your knees. To lift the object, you should stand up slowly. Use your leg muscles in order to stand up. In other words, lift with your legs, not with your back.

Over time, the Declaration of Independence has deeply affected American history. Phrases from the document such as “all men are created equal” quickly took on a life of their own or were applied to groups that the authors never expected. Blacks quickly used this language to challenge slavery in the United States. The ideal of equality led Northern states to free slaves in 1780s, 1790s, and early 1800s. black and white abolitionists(废奴主义者) used the ideal that all men were created equal to attack slavery in the South before the Civil War. And civil rights supporters gathered behind Jefferson’s words in their fight against racism in the 1950s and 1960s. in 1848 the delegates(代表)to the Seneca Falls women’s rights conference proclaimed that “all men and women are created equal”, and the 20th-centruy feminist (女权主义者) did the same.

Other groups have focused on the document’s defence of the right to rebel against an unjust government. The declaration of Independence had a deep effect on the French Revolution; its influence was strong in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, adopted by the National Assembly of France in 1789. in the 19th century the principles of the declaration were adopted by various Latin American movements fighting for independence from European colonial powers. The declaration influences more recent struggles for national identity (身份): Vietnamese Communist Leader HoChi Mink, for example, used the American document as one of the basic principles behind his fight to establish an independent and unified Vietnam.

The document itself continues to be an important symbol for the American people. Today, each page of the Declaration of Independence is protected. Over one million Americans view the document each year in Washington, D,C. , where it is displayed along with the constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

Magic is believed to have begun with the Egyptians, in 1700BC. A magician named Dedi of Dedsnefu was reported to have performed for the pharaoh, or the king. He was also known to have entertained the slaves who built the pyramids. The “Cups and Balls” trick which he was particularly good at is still performed by magicians all over the world today.

The ancient Greeks and Romans were also fascinated(使着迷) by the idea of magic. Actually, one of their main interests was the art of deception. This explains why at that time the priests (牧师) even built magic devices into their temples. These devices made it possible for doors to open by themselves and wine to flow magically out of statues’ mouths. This was done mainly to convince people that the priests were powerful.

Magic, however, was not well accepted before the 1800s. Magicians were thought of as freaks(非正常人)and were only allowed to perform in a circus. It was in the 19th century that the magician Robert Houdin came along and changed people’s views and attitudes about magic. It was also because of Robert Huoudin that many magicians were able to add Dr. or MD to their names. Today magicians try hard to find new ways to show their practiced skills. Magic is now entertainment for families all over the world.

May 5th, 2005/

Dear editor,

Last year I wrote you a letter (published in your paper)about serious pollution in Huaihe River. Our city government paid great attention to it and accepted my suggestions about stopping pollution of the Huaihe River and improve our surroundings. They have closed a chemical works which polluted the Huaihe River most, and moved and rebuilt a paper factory. We are strengthening the protection of nature and the fight (struggle) against pollution. Now birds have returned to both sides of the Huaihe River and people can eat fresh fish from the Huaihe River. We have planted a lot of young trees and are raising flowers to make our surroundings green. A water works has been built recently so that we now drink and use tap water instead of river water. We are living a clean and happy life.

W; Just a minute. Half past five? But he knows very well I don’t get home from work until 5:15. how can I get ready in a quarter of an hour?

Text 2

W: Tom, are you going straight home after work today?

M: No, I have a meeting until 4’oclock, and after that I’m taking swimming lessons.

W: I’m so happy to see you back in class again. Three weeks is a long time.

M: I really had a great time seeing all the sights. There’s nothing like taking it easy once a year.

Text 5

M: I’m really looking forward to the match.

W: Yes, so am I. If only it would stop raining tonight.

M: Well, it can’t be helped.

W; No, I suppose not. The field is so wet. I’m afraid it won’t be very exciting.

Text 6.

M: We shouldn’t get up too late tomorrow morning. I’m going to walk in that wood behind our house.

W: I know you enjoy walking, but our house manager has told our son to watch out for the wild wolf.

M: What did he say about the wild wolf?

W: Someone prepared food for small animals and that attracted the wolf.

M: Are you sure it wasn’t just a joke?

W: I don’t think it was a joke, but I really don’t understand what he meant.

W: What’s the matter with you?

M: I feel sleepy because I watched television until after midnight.

W: After midnight! That was really late. Why? Were you tired?

M: Tired? No, I was unhappy because I left my meal tickets in the dining room. There’s more than fifty dollars worth of meal tickets lost.

W: That happens to everyone at the English corner. You can ask that person to say it again.

M: Well, for the past few weeks, the weather in this city has been changing a lot. No matter what I put on, I’m never dressed properly for the day. I believe that’s the reason I’m often sick.

W: Many newcomers have the same trouble. It takes a while to get used to the weather.

M: I know. It’s just a period of time and it’s hard to get through.

W: I heard that there’s a weather hotline you can call in the morning. It will tell you the temperature for the day.

M: Yes, I think I’ve heard of that hotline.

W: I’d like to find out if it really helps. Maybe you can give them a call tomorrow morning and see if it helps your situation.

M: Not me! I heard that it’s very expensive and I don’t have that kind of money.
