A new weapon is on the way in the fight against smoking in Europe. Soon when smokers buy cigarettes they might see a shocking photo of a blackened lung or a cancer patient staring back at them from the packet.
Some boys may think of smoking as cool and sexy. Their friends won’t agree when they see their packets of cigarettes lying on the table. The European Union announced on October 22, that it had chosen 42 photos that showed the damage cigarettes could do to the body. It called on member nations to put these pictures on packets to discourage smokers. To catch the attention of teenagers, the special packets warn of long-term medical dangers, like cancer. Short-term effects, like bad skin, are also on the list.
“The true face of smoking is disease, death and horror. That is the message we should send to the young,” said David Byrne,an EU health official. “Hopefully these pictures will shock students out of their love for cigarettes.”
The EU head office hoped the pictures would work better than current written warnings on packs of cigarettes. The warnings included “smoking kills” and “smoking can lead to a slow and painful death.”
So far,Ireland and Belgium have shown interest in the photos. Canada has used similar pictures and warnings on cigarette packs since 2000.The country has recently seen a fall in the number of smokers. According to studies, smoking is the single biggest cause of avoidable death in EU. Every year more than 650,000 smokers die, more than one person a minute.

A.young smokers B.smokers in Ireland and Belgium
C.all smokers D.young smokers’ friends

“Business is war.” The traditional language of business certainly makes it sound that way: winning the competition, getting market share, beating up suppliers, locking up customers. There are the victors and the losers.
But today in doing business, you have to listen to stores, CY work with suppliers, keep good relations-even with competitors. That doesn’t sound like war. Besides, there are few victors when business is looked upon as war.
Most businesses succeed only if others also succeed. Business is competition and cooperation as well. In other words, business is war and peace.
To bring together competition and cooperation, we turn to game theory. Game theory provides that whether one person wins or loses depends on what other people do. It is particularly effective when there are many interdependent(相互依存的)factors and no decision can be made in isolation(孤立)from other decisions.
Game theory breaks down the game into key elements: players, added values, rules, tactics(计谋), and scope(范围)(PARTS).Every element affects the result of the game. This means that each of the five elements gives you a way to change an existing game into entirely new one. Change one of the PARTS, and you change the whole.
Why change the game? An old Chinese saying explains: If you continue on the course you’re heading, that’s where you’ll end up. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes not. You can play the game very well, and still suffer great loss. That’s because you’re playing the wrong game: you need to change it. Even a good game can be made into a better one. Real success comes from actively shaping the game you play-from making the game you want, not taking the game you find.
64.The author of this passage is _______ the idea that “Business is war.”

The case for college has been accepted without question for more than a generation. All high school graduates ought to go, says conventional wisdom and statistical evidence, because college will help them earn more money, become "better" people, and learn to be more responsible citizens than those who don't go.
But college has never been able to work its magic for everyone. And now that close to half our high school graduates are attending, those who don't fit the pattern are becoming more numerous, and more obvious. College graduates are selling shoes and driving taxis; college students interfere with each other's experiments and write false letters of recommendation in the intense competition for admission to graduate school. Others find no stimulation in their studies, and drop out-often encouraged by college administrators. Some observers say the fault is with the young people themselves-they are spoiled and they are expecting too much.
But that's a condemnation(谴责) of the students as a
while, and doesn't explain all campus unhappiness. Others blame the state of
the world, and they are partly right. We've been told that young people have to
go to college because our economy can't absorb an army of untrained eighteen-year-olds.
But disappointed graduates are learning that it can no longer absorb an army of
trained twenty-two-year olds, either.
Some adventuresome educators
and campus watchers have openly begun to suggest that college may not be the
best, the proper, the only place for every young person after the completion of
high school. We may have been looking at all those surveys and statistics
upside down, it seems, and through the rosy glow of our own remembered college
experiences. Perhaps college doesn't make people intelligent, ambitious, happy,
liberal, or quick to learn things people are merely the ones who have been
attracted to college in the first place. And perhaps all those successful
college graduates would have been successful whether they had gone to college
or not. This is heresy(异端邪说) to those of us who have been brought up to believe
that if a little schooling is good, more has to be much better. But contrary
evidence is beginning to mount up.
68.According to the author ____?
A.people used to question the value of college education
B.people used to have full confidence in higher education
C.all high school graduates went to college
D.very few high school graduates chose to go to college
69.In the 2nd paragraph, " those who don't fit the pattern " refers to ______.
A.high school graduates who aren't suitable for college education
B.college graduates who are selling shoes and driving taxis
C.college students who aren't any better for their higher education
D.high school graduates who failed to be admitted to college
70.According to passage the problems of college education partly arise from the fact that ____.
A.society cannot provide enough jobs for properly trained college graduates
B.high school graduates do not fit the pattern of college education.
C.Too many students have to earn their own living.
D.College administrators encourage students to drop out.
71.In this passage the author argues that ____.
A.more and more evidence shows college education may not be the best thing
for high school graduates.
B.College education is not enough of one wants to be successful
C.College education benefits only the intelligent, ambitious , and quick-learning
People
D.intelligent people may learn quicker of they don't go to college.

Supermarkets are trying out new computers that make shopping carts more intelligent. They will help shoppers find paper cups or toilet soap, and keep a record of the bill.
The touch-screen devices are on show at the Food Marketing Institute’s exhibition here this week, “These devices are able to create value and get you around the store quicker,” said Michael Alexander, manager of Springboard Retail Networks Inc., which makes a smart cart computer called the Concierge.
Canadian stores will test the Concierge in July. A similar device, IBM’s “Shopping Buddy”, has recently been test-marketed at Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts.
Neither device tells you how many fat grams or calories are in your cart, but they will flash you with items on sale. The idea is to make it easier for people to buy, not to have second thoughts that maybe you should put something back on the shelf.
“The whole model is driven by advertisers’ need to get in front of shoppers,” said Alexander. “They’re not watching 30-second TV ads anymore.”
People can use a home computer to make their shopping lists. Once at the store, a shopper can use a preferred customer card to start a system that will organize the trip around the store. If you’re looking for toothpicks, you type in the word or pick it from a list, and a map will appear on the screen showing where you are and where you can find them.
The device also keeps a record of what you buy. When you’re finished, the device figures out your bill. Then you go to the checker or place your card into a self-checkout stand and pay.
The new computerized shopping assistants don’t come cheap. The Buddy devices will cost the average store about $160,000, and the Concierge will cost stores about $500 for each device.
72.The underlined word “they” (paragraph 1) refers to ______.
A.supermarkets B.shop assistants C.shopping carts D.shop managers
73.Which of the following is the correct order of shopping with computerized shopping carts?
C.Find the things you want. D.Go to a self-checkout stand.
A.abdc B.bacd C.acbd D.bcad
74.We can learn from the last paragraph that ______.
A.intelligent shopping carts cost a large sum of money
B.the Concierge is cheaper than the Buddy devices
C.shop assistants with computer knowledge are well paid
D.average stores prefer the Concierge to the Buddy devices
75.What might be the most suitable title for the text?
A.New age for supermarkets
B.Concierge and Shopping Buddy
C.New computers make shopping carts smarter
D.Touch-screen devices make shopping unenjoyable

In the United States, train transportation is unpopular compared with cars and airplanes. Most people like traveling by car or by air.
Officials of the United States Department of Transportation made a study in 2001.The study is about how many miles Americans traveled by different means of transportation. They only studied trips longer than 50 miles. The study showed that fifty-six percent of all miles were traveled in personal vehicle. Forty-one percent were traveled in an airplane. Two percent were traveled in a bus. And less than one percent of miles were traveled in a train.
Amtrak is the national provider of train transportation in the United States. In the past ten years, the number of its passengers has increased by eighteen percent. I prefer to live in City A.I have made decision based on the following reasons.
First, City A is the safest of the three. As violence and crimes are on the rise all across the world, it is only wise to choose a place whepre we are going to be safe. Second, the job opportunities, though not the best, are still quite good. Considering the fact that I am a software engineer, it is the least of my worries whether I can find a job or not. Third, entertainment in City A is not bad. In fact, I am not crazy about entertainment. Last, though the climate is the worst of the three, it is not a major concern because we stay indoors most of the time and you will find all the rooms air- conditioned.
