Creativity is the key to a brighter future, say education and business experts. Here is how schools and parents can ¡¡21¡¡ this important skill in children.

If Dick Drew had listened to his boss in 1925, we 22 not have a product that we now think of as of great importance: a new type of 23 . Drew worked for the Minnesota Mining Company. At work he 24  a kind of material strong enough to hold things together. 25  his boss told him not to think more about the idea. Finally, using his own time, Drew improved the tape, which now is used everywhere by many people. And his 26  company learned from its mistake. Now it encourages people to spend 15 percent of their work time just thinking about and developing new 27 .

Creativity is not something one is just born with, nor is it 28  a character of high intelligence. The fact that a person is highly intelligent does not 29 that he uses it creatively. Creativity is the matter of using the resources one has to produce new ideas that are good for something. 30 , schools have not tried to encourage creativity. With strong 31 to test¡¡results and the development of reading, writing and mathematical skills, many educators 32¡¡creativity for correct answers. The result is that children can give back information but cannot 33  ways to use it in new 34. They may know the rules correctly, but they are 35  to use them to work out practical problems.

It is important to give children 36 . From the earliest age, children should be allowed to make decisions and understand their results. 37 it¡¯s choosing between two food items for lunch, parents should let their children decide how to use their time or spend their money, but not help them too much if they make the 38 decision. Solar energy for your home is coming. It can help you as a single home owner. It can help the whole country as well. Whether or not solar energy can save your money depends on many things. Where you live is one factor and the type of home you have is another. Things like insulation£¨¾øÔµ²ÄÁÏ£©, present energy costs, and the type of system you buy are added factors.

Using solar energy can help save our precious fuel. As you know, our supplies of oil and gas are very limited. There is just not enough on hand to meet all our future energy needs. Sooner or later Mother Nature will say that¡¯s all. The only way we can delay hearing those words is by starting to save energy now and by using other sources, like the sun.

We won¡¯t have to worry about the sun¡¯s running out of energy for another several billion years or so. Besides, the sun doesn¡¯t offer as many problems as other energy sources. For example, fossil fuel adds to already high pollution levels. With solar energy, we will still need sources of energy, but we won¡¯t need as much. That means we can cut down on our pollution problems.

With all these good points, why don¡¯t we use more solar power? There are many reasons for this. The biggest reason is money. Until now, it was just not practical for a home owner to put in a solar unit. There were cheaper sources of energy.

All that is changing now. Solar  costs are starting to equal the costs of oil and electricity. Experts say that gas, oil and electricity prices will continue to rise. The demand for electricity is increasing rapidly. But new power plants will use more gas, oil or coal. Already in some places the supply of electricity is being rationed£¨ÏÞÁ¿¹©Ó¦£©. Solar energy is now in its infancy£¨³õÆÚ£©. It could soon grow to become a major part of our nation¡¯s energy supply.

49£®What¡¯s this passage mainly about?

¡¡¡¡¡¡A£®Solar energy and its pollution.¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡B£®Using solar energy.

¡¡¡¡¡¡A£®It is clean and will take the place of all the other energies.

¡¡¡¡¡¡B£®It will not run out for another several million years.

¡¡¡¡¡¡C£®It has no problems at all when we use solar energy.

¡¡¡¡¡¡D£®It costs more to use solar energy now.

52£®Solar energy is now in its infancy, ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ .

For many years, I was convinced that my suffering was due to my size. I believed that when the weight disappeared, it would take old wounds, hurts, and rejections with it.

Many weight ¨C conscious people also mistakenly believe that changing our bodies will fix everything. Perhaps our worst mistake is believing that being thin equals being loved, being special, and being cherished. We dream about what it will be like when we reach the long ¨C awaited goal. We work very hard to realize this dream. Then, at last, we find ourselves there.

But we often gain back what we have lost. Even so, we continue to believe that next time it will be different. Next time, we will keep it off. Next time, being thin will finally fulfill its promise of everlasting happiness, self ¨C worth, and, of course, love.

It took me a long while to realize that there was something more for me to learn about beauty. Beauty standards vary with culture. In Samoa a woman is not considered attractive unless she weighs more than 200 pounds. More importantly, of it¡¯s happiness that we want, why not put our energy there rather than on the size of our body? Why not look inside? Many of us try hard to change our body, but in vain. We have to find a way to live comfortably inside our body and make friends with and cherish ourselves. When we change our attitudes toward ourselves, the whole world changes.

53£®The passage tries to highlight the importance of ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡.

¡¡¡¡¡¡A. body size¡¡¡¡¡¡ B. attitude towards life¡¡C. culture difference¡¡ D. different beauty standards

¡¡¡¡¡¡B£®The author succeeded in losing weight.

¡¡¡¡¡¡C£®The author has been troubled by his or her weight.

¡¡¡¡¡¡D£®The author probably got wounded in wars or accidents.

56£®According to the author, what is the common view of those who have lost some weight first and

gained it back later?

¡¡¡¡¡¡A£®They feel angry about the regained weight.

¡¡¡¡¡¡B£®They pay little attention to the regained weight.

¡¡¡¡¡¡C£®They feel optimistic about future plans on weight control.

¡¡¡¡¡¡D£®They think they should give up their future plans on weight control.

Why we go to university?

Some think that a university education will make us more competitive for job hunting and therefore it will be easier to find a well ¨C paid job. Others think that we can get more knowledge in universities.

Personally. I think going to university will certainly broaden my horizon and improve my personality by working with people from different places. I will learn to be more independent and confident while staying away from my parents. Besides universities provied good chances to accumulate social experience and develop communicating ability, which will help to lay a foundation for my future work. What I believe is that the higher quality we have, the greater contribution we can do to our motherland.
