Steven Felton is a man with a mission(任务). He gave up his job to follow his childhood dream--finding the Loch Ness monster(鬼怪).
Mr. Felton, aged 34, left his home in southwest England to live by the 1och(湖)in the Scottish highlands. Now he is Britain’s only professional monster-hunter, endlessly driving his car up and down the 38-kilometre shoreline of the loch.
He keeps himself going by selling clay Loch Ness models to tourists. He photographs and films the loch and takes echo soundings in the hope of finding some evidence of the existence of the“animal”,a name he gave the Inch Ness monster.
Mr. Felton says that one sighing of an unexplained “disturbance” on the water by himself plus a 1arge collection of other sightings by other people has led him to believe that there are 20 to 30 Loch Ness monsters. He is certain that the “animal” is about the size of a minibus and has a back shaped like an upturned boat.
His faith in the monster’s existences back to his childhood when his family took him on a picnic to the loch at the age of seven. “ I got hooked(钩住)on the Loch Ness monster as a kid, and I still find it fascinating that in the British Isles, which is all completely mapped out and about which we know almost everything, there is still a mystery unexplained.
Since he arrived in Scotland six years ago,the stories he has collected, together with information from the occasiona1 visiting scientific research team have made him “behave in the existence of the “animal”. “The scientists often say they have found something, but nothing conclusive. But it all adds a little each time” he said.
His family are quite proud of his great interest in the Loch Ness monster. Asked if he ever feels lonely, Mr. Felton emphasizes, “I know I am in the place where I want to be.” His search has made him popular with some of the people who live around the Loch. When he is not out monster-hunting,he usually reads science fiction books.

Be careful of those who use the truth to deceive〔欺骗〕. When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included,he can create a false impression.
For example, a man once told me, “ I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery. It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!”
This guy’s a winner, right?Maybe, maybe not. Then later I discovered that he bought two hundred tickets, and only one was a winner. He was really a big loser!
He didn’t say any thing that was false, but he omitted important information on purpose. That’s called a half-truth. Half-truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest.
Untrustworthy candidates(候选人) in political campaigns often use this trick. Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million; jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents(对手)runs an ad saying, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state lost one million jobs!” That’s true. However,an honest statement would have been quite different.
Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths. It’s against the law to make false claims, so they try to mislead you with the truth. An ad might blow its own horn, “ Nine out of ten doctors lend Yucky Pills to cure nose pimples.” It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors; and nine of them work for the Yucky Corporation.
This kind of deception happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well.
64. According to the passage, which of the following is true?
A. Governor Smith often tells half truths.
B. Important information can create a false impression.
C. Whenever people tell the truth, they are really lying.
D. Sometimes the truth can be used in dishonest ways.
65. The underlined word “omitted” ( paragraph 4 ) means .
A. gave up B. left out C. told about D. found out
66. From the passage, we can learn that .
A. during Governor Smith’s last term, her state got a net gain of three million jobs
B. the man who says he won l00 dollars on the lottery actually lost 100 dollars
C. advertisers and politicians often break the law by making false claims
D. 90 percent of the doctors believe Yucky Pills can cure nose pimples
67. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To explain the relationship between truths and lies.
B. To tell people what half-truths really mean.
C. To advise people to be honest in giving information.
D. To warn people to be careful of what they read and hear.
D
A small group of people around the world have started implanting ( 移植) microchips to link the body and the computer.
Mr Donelson and three friends, who had driven 100 miles from their homes in Loockport,New York,to have the implants put in by Dr Jesse Villemaire, whom they had persuaded to do the work, are part of a small group, about 30 people around the world, who have independently put in microchips, into their bodies, according to Web--based reports.
At a shop Williarn Donelson was having a four-millimeter-wide needle put into his left hand. “I’m set, ” he said with a deep breath. He watched as the needle pierced〔刺穿)the fleshy webbing between his thumb and forefinger and a microchip was set under his skin. At last he wou1d be ab1e to do what he had long imagined: strengthen his body’s powers through technology.
By putting the chip inside--a radio frequency identification device (RFID)---Mr. Donelson would have at his fingertips the same magic that makes safety gates open with a knock of a card, and bridge and tunnel traffic flow smoothly with an E-ZPass. With a wave of his hand he plans to connect with his computer, open doors and unlock his car.
Implanting the chip was a relatively simple task but very meaningful to Mr. Donelson, a 21-year-old computer networking student so interested in the link between technology and the body that he has data-input jacks ( 数据输入插空)inside his body. They might lead to an imagined future when people can be connected directly into computer. His new chip is enclosed in a glass container no bigger than a piece of rice and has a small memory where he has stored the words “Technology”.
Some doctors have done the piercing in people’s homes, and others have implanted chips in their offices after patients signed forms showing the fact that long term studies have not been done on their safety. Piercers treat the implants much like any other medical operation steps, instructing people to keep the site dry,and advising them that swelling(肿)and redness should last a week.
68.What a RFID implanted, which of the following will Mr. Donelson be able to do?
A. Make safety gates open with a knock of a card.
B. Make bridge and tunnel traffic flows smoothly with an E-ZPass.
C. Open doors and unlock his cars with a wave of his hand.
D. Connect his body and brain directly on to computers.
69. The underlined word “they” (paragraph 4) refers to .
A. glass containers B. implanted computer chips
C. data input jacks D. computer and networking students
70. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. High Tech, Under the Skin B. A Needle, So Magic
C. Donelson, a Powerful Man D. Data-input Jacks, Inside the Body
7l. .We can conclude from the passage that .
A. Mr. Donelson has made a large sum of money by the piercing
B. the piercers are people working in the computer field
C. the piercing has no side effect and it will make people intelligent
D. the long term effects of these implants are not yet known

we often use an Internet search engine to find a web site that will provide information. We can also use articles in newspapers and magazines. Sometimes we also use a encyclopedia, a set of books containing information on almost any subject. Encyclopedias are written by experts and have been a trusted source of information for years.
Now there is also a free online encyclopedia-called Wikipedia. It is written by people around the world. Anyone can edit or add an article to it. But this has caused problems.
Last year, a former editor of the paper USA Today discovered wrong information about him on Wikipedia. Someone had written an article that falsely linked him to a political murder. This wrong information was quickly corrected.
Later, the publication Nature studied Wikipedia and a well-known printed encyclopedia, Britannica, 'to see which had more mistakes. It found an average of four mistakes in a Wikipedia article, and three in an article in Britannica, s. Wikipedia supporters note that they are able to correct information when they find a mistake. Written publications are not able to do this.
Wikipedia started in 200l. The word “wiki” comes from “wiki wiki” which means “quickly” in the Hawaiian language. Reports say it is the largest single source of information ever in history. It is also one of the fastest growing sites on the Internet.
It offers more than 3,000,000 articles in more than 200 languages. Each month, it records over two thousand million page visits. Jimmy Wales helped start Wikipedia. He says its purpose is to provide all people with a free encyclopedia written in their native language. You can find information on just about every subject on Wikipedia, even about Special English. However, some experts warn people not to believe everything they read online, no matter where they read it.
72. Which of the following is true about Wikipedia?
A. It has a longer history than the printed encyclopedia.
B. Mistakes can be corrected easily.
C. It is produced by people from America.
D. You can find everything you need on it.
73. According to the passage, what is the main problem with Wikipedia?
A. Most information provided on Wikipedia is false.
B. It can’t provide people with enough information.
C. There was some wrong information about the editors of it.
D. There are more mistakes on Wikipedia than in some printed encyclopedias.
74. Compared with other information sources, what is the most obvious advantage of Wikipedia?
A. The information provided on it is free of charge.
B. It has larger number of readers every month.
C. It’s among the fast-growing websites.
D. Wrong information is less common here than in other places.
75. Which of the following is suggested in the passage?
A. Not everything on the Internet is worth trusting.
B. Jimmy Wales is the only founder of the site Wikipedia.
C. Encyclopedias are still a trusted source for the latest information.
D. Special English can he commonly found in printed encyclopedias.

The Green School Project has become part of the environmental education in our school. However, there are still a lot of problem in the school.
Very often you come across an empty classroom with the lights still on. It’s not difficult to find evidence of wasting water,a very serious problem. Additionally, students do not recycle enough, throwing away the soft drink bottles, used exercise papers and books. Worse still, many students still use the non-environmentally friendly lunch boxes, causing the “White Pollution”.
These things should that many students lack the sense of environmental awareness. It’s important to educate students to be more environmentally friendly. At the same time, students can do small things, such as collecting used items for recycling turning off the lights, saving water. Always remember that it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect the environment.
