A

There are thousands of products of all colors and shapes in a supermarket , making you believe that they are worth a try . How ? Packaging (包装)is the silent but persuading salesman .

There on the shelves, each bottle, can, box, and jar has been carefully designed and measured to speak to the inner self of the consumer(消费者), so that he is buying not only a product but also his belief in life. Scientists have studied consumer behavior recently and found that the look of the package has a great effect on the “quality” of the product and on how well it sells, because “Consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package. Many products are packages and many packages are products,” as Louis Cheskin, the first social scientist studying consumers’ feeling for packaging, noticed.

Colors are one of the best tools in packaging. Studies of eye movement have shown that colors draw human attention quickly. Take V8 for example. For many years, the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that it is very good for your body. And the word “green” today can keep food prices going up.

Shapes are another attraction. Circles often suggest happiness and peacefulness, because these shapes are pleasing to both the eye and the heart. That’s why the round yellow M signs of McDonald’s are inviting to both young and old.
This new consumer response(反应)to the colors and shapes of packages reminds producers and sellers that people buy to satisfy both body and soul.
56.According to the passage, ______ seems to be able to persuade a consumer to buy

the product.
 A. the pleasing color of the package B. the special taste of the product
 C. the strange shape of the package D. the belief in the product
57.If a package or a product is round in shape, it can ________.
 A. bring excitement to the consumers
 B. attract the consumers’ attention
 C. catch the eye movement of the consumers

58. “And the word ‘green’ today can keep food prices going up.” This sentence

suggests that consumers today are ________.
 A. starting to notice the importance of new food
 B. enjoying the beauty of nature more than before
 C. beginning to like green vegetables
D.paying more attention to their health
59.It can be inferred from the passage that V8 is a kind of ________.
 A. vegetable dish B. healthy juice C. iced drink D. red vegetable

If parents bring up child with the aim of turning the child into a genius, they will cause great damage to him. According to several leading educational psychologists, this is one of the biggest mistakes which some parents make. Generally, the child will understand very well what the parent expects, and will fail .Unrealistic parental expectations can cause great damage to children.

However, if parents are not unrealities about what they expect their children to do, but are hopeful in a sensible way, the child may succeed in doing very well--especially if the parents are very supportive of their child.

Michael Li is very lucky. He is very fond of music, and his parents help him a lot by taking him to concerts and arranging private piano and violin lessons for him. They even drive him 50 kilometers twice a week for violin lessons. Although Michael’s mother knows very little about music. Michael’s father plays the trumpet in a large orchestra. However, he never makes Michael enter music competitions if he is unwilling.

Michael’s friend, Winston Chen, however, is not so lucky. Although both his parents are successful musicians, they set too high a standard for Winston. They want their son to be as successful as they are and so they enter him in every piano competition held. They are very unhappy when he does not win. “When I was your age,I used to win every competition I entered.” Winston's father tells him. Winston is always afraid that he will disappoint his parents and now he always seems quiet and unhappy.

Sabine Island, near Greenland, was first discovered by the British geographer Sir Edward Sabine in1823,but an 1869 map showed it was actually a quarter of a mile farther west than its discoverer had mapped. This interested Alfred Wegener,a young geographer working in Greenland in 1910.He thought the error(误差)too great to be explained.

Wegener himself took measurements and found that since 1869 the island had moved another five- eighths of a mile. After checking the position of other Arctic landmasses, he concluded that all of them were drifting(漂移)westward at different speeds.

From this finding,Wegener developed his floating continent theory. He imagined an original super-continent making up the infant(未成年的)earth, finally the mass broke up into several pieces—the present continents. The continents do seem to fit together like pieces of a puzzle, and what’s more, some of the mountain ranges(山脉)of different continents 1ine up rather well,as if the landmasses were at one time connected. However, believable as Wegener’s argument appeared, many geographers refused to accept it. Exactly how the continents were formed is still a leading mystery(谜)in geography, though today many geographers are returning to the continental drift theory.

64.Sabine Island was first discovered and mapped by________.

  D. the Arctic landmasses were slowly drifting westward

67.From the passage we can conclude that ________.

  A. Wegener liked to take things for granted

When a customer finds that what she or he bought is faulty or in some other way does not live up to what the producer promises, the first step is to give the warrant(保单),or any other records which might help,to the store where he or she bought the thing. In most cases, this action will produce results. However,if it does not, there are various methods the customer may use to satisfaction.

A simple and common method used by many customers is to complain(投诉)fiercely to the store manager. In general the “higher up” the customer takes his or her complaint, the faster he or she can expect it to be settled. In such a case,it is usually settled in customer’s favor, thinking what he or she complains is just.

Customers should complain in person whenever possible, but if they cannot get to the store,it is acceptable to phone or write the complaint in a letter.

Complaining is usually most effective when it is done politely but firmly, and especially when the customer can show what is wrong with the thing he or she bought in question. If this cannot be done, the customer will succeed best by giving clear information as to what is wrong, rather than by general statement. For example, “The left speaker does not work at all and the sound coming out of the right one is unclear.”is better than “This stereo(立体声音响)does not work.”

The store manager may advise the customer to write to the producer. If so,the customer should do this, expressing the complaint as politely and firmly as possible. If a polite complaint does not achieve the desired result, the customer can go a step farther. She or he can threaten(威胁)to take the seller to court or report the seller to a private or public organization in charge of protecting customers rights.

68.If a customer wants a quick settlement of his or her problem,it's better to complain to_____.

A. the store manager B. a shop assistant

 C. the producer D. a public organization

69.The most effective complaint can be made by_________.

A. showing the faulty thing to the producer

 B. explaining exactly what is wrong with the thing

 C. saying firmly that the thing is of poor quality

 D. asking politely to change the thing

70.The underlined phrase “live up to” in the first paragraph means ________.

 A. meet the standard(标准)of

 B. realize the purpose of

 C. complete the demands of

 D. keep the promise of

71.The passage tells us ________.

 A. how to settle a customer’s complaint about a faulty thing

 B. how to make an effective complaint about a faulty thing

 C. how to prevent buying a faulty thing

 D. how to deal with complaints from customers

The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled,pain-free equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true:more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably(不可避免地)brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment(义务),self-improvement.

Ask a bachelor(单身汉)why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment, for commitment is in fact  quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure, excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.

Couples, with infant children are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of a three-day vacation.I don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples who decide not to have children never know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time:now we can devote more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: We now understand that all those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

72.According to the author,a bachelor resists marriage chiefly because________.

  A. he is unwilling to take on family responsibilities

  B. he believes that life will be more cheerful if he remains single

  C. he finds more fun in dating than in marriage

  D. he fears it will put an end to all his fun, adventure and excitement

73.From the last sentence we learn that envy sometimes comes from _______.

  A. hate B. misunderstanding

C. happiness                        D.1ack of knowledge

74. To understand what true happiness is,one must _______.

  A. have as much fun as possible in one’s life time.

  B. make every effort to liberate oneself from pain.

  C. put up with pain in any situation

D. be able to tell happiness from fun.

75. What is the author trying to tell us?

  A. Happiness often goes hand in hand with pain.

  B. One must know how to obtain happiness.

C .It is important to make commitments.

  D. It is pain that leads to happiness.

作文:

Now in the country areas, there are many children out of school. The reasons for this are different. Some families are too poor to afford to send their children to school. Some parents think it useless for girls to go to school, so that their daughters lose the chance. Some children are unwilling to attend school for lack of interest in studies. In my opinion, every child should have the chance to receive education, whether boys or girls. Besides, the whole society should pay attention to the education of children, because they will play important roles in developing or country in the future.
