Beginning in October, more than 13,000 McDonald's restaurants in America will use a new variety of cooking oil. McDonald's aims to make its French fries and other fried foods healthier.

The change will not affect the taste or the number of calories in the food. But by changing the cooking oil, McDonald's says, it hopes to cut by nearly half the amount of trans fatty acids (转换脂肪酸) in French flies and reduce the amount of saturated fats raise cholesterol (胆固醇) levels and increase the risk of heart disease. McDonald's new step is important because McDonald's is an industry leader and other fast-food chains and food processors may follow the lead.

Let us say there is something you don't know how to do.

In the past, you were determined to learn, you might have called a friend or relative, taken a night class or walked down to the local library for a research term. But now a host of websites are springing up to provide, free practical advice on these subjects and actually anything else you can think of.

In one sense, these "how-to" sites represent(表明) a part of the growing world of online learning. This tradition found one of its earliest forms in the FAQs--or Frequently Asked Questions files-- that began an Usenet, the Internet's global discussion group. These FAQs, many of which still circulate (go round continuously), took a specific -- and explained it to complete novices.

But "how-to" sites takes the FAQs idea in a somewhat different direction by addressing subjects that aren't necessarily related to discussion forums(论坛). These sites take the style of a written tutorial (teaching period) and a tone of friendly advice. Possibly the biggest and best known of these sites is learn2.com (www.Learn2. com) It offers nearly 1000 free tutorials and adds new ones frequently for a job interview.

At chow. corn (www. ehow. com) you can learn how to train for your first marathon, how to buy a vacation home, or how to make a movie in eight steps.

The climate of any place is the kind of weather it usually has over a long period of time. The houses we live in, the clothes we wear, even the foods we eat depend on the climate of the place where we live.

Climate is a pattern that is not nearly as simple as we think, it is affected by many factors (因素). The distance to the North or South Pole or to the equator really matters a lot. If you live near either of the poles, you live in a cold climate, for the place where you live does not get as much or as direct sunshine as a place farther away from the poles. In places close to the equator (赤道), the climate is very hot, for they are the parts where the sun shines almost straight down.

The amount of rain or snow falls makes a great difference to the climate. In hot, dry deserts, little rain falls, but in a hot rain forest, the amount of rainfalls is far larger than that in a desert, for there is a heavy rain almost every day, even several times per day.

Though a rain forest and a desert may be the same distance from the equator, their climates are rather different from each other.

How much rain or snow falls arc considered by some to be determined by the winds, the surrounding mountains and the currents (水流) in nearby seas and so on. In short, it is a very complex natural phenomenon (现象).

  A. how near a place is near to either pole or the equator

  B. the different place at which the sun shines

  C. that the equator is in the middle of the globe while the Antarctica and Arctic are at the ends of the poles

  D. their different geographical positions on the earth

74. The difference of the climates between a tropical desert and a tropical rain forest affected by ________.

A. the amount of rainfalls

B. the winds and the surrounding mountains

  C. the currents in nearby seas

E--mail systems at thousands of companies and government offices around the world were attacked by a virus (病毒) called "Melissa" that disguises (伪装)itself as an "important message" from a friend.

In spite of a weekend of warnings, more than 50,000 computers at about 100 places around the world have been attacked by the virus, computer security experts said on Monday.

The virus began to show up last Friday and spread rapidly on Monday by making computers fire off dozens of infected (被传染的) e---mails. Although the virus causes no serious damage to a computer, its effect were far reaching.

To make matters worse, a similar virus called "Papa" was discovered on Monday. Papa is programmed to send out even more infected e---mails than Melissa.

The Melissa virus comes in the form of an e--mail, usually containing the subject line "Important Message". It appears to be from a friend. The body of the e--mail message says, "Here is that document you asked for...don't show it to anyone else." Attached(附) to the message is a document file. Once the user opens that file, the virus digs into the user's address book and sends infected documents to the first 50 addresses.

E--mails from the Papa virus include an attached spreadsheet(电子数据文件) file .When the user opens that file, the virus sends 60 infected e---mails.

The reason why this is spreading so fast is that you are getting it from people you know. You should never open documents or attachments from people you don't know. People who get an unexpected e---mail with the "important message" subject line should delete it immediately and not open the message.

76.Thousands of computers were attacked by the Melissa virus ________.

  A. covered with an important message

  B. under cover of an urgent message

  C. under the clothes of an important e—mail

D. with a beautiful coat

D. burn with a fire because of many infected e--mails.

78. After the attack by the Melissa virus a computer ________.

   A. was slightly damaged

   B. became entirely out of order

   C. could not send out any e--mail any longer

   D. would have to be thrown away

 79. If you opened an infected file by Melissa virus, the virus would ________.

  A. damage the user's address book at once

B. soon spread through the user's list of address

C. let the first 50 addresses go out of the computer

D. change the user's address book in the computer

80. ________ gave one an attachment called spreadsheet file.

  A. The Melissa virus

  B. The e--mails infected by the Melissa virus
