Man must eat in order to live; therefore, one of the most important problems man has is how to have enough food for eating.

At first man didn't have any way to control food supply. When he had killed all the animals in one place and all the natural foods had been used up, he had to move to another place to find new sources of food. If there was no rain, or if the weather was too hot or too cold, plants would not grow, and man had little or no food. However, man gradually learned to grow plants and raise animals himself. From that time on, man wasn't worried so much and always having enough food.

The kinds of plants which are raised by man are different in different regions. In the cold regions, very few plants can be grown; in the warmer parts of the world, many varieties of plants are found. For example, in Asia rice is the most important crop.In the New World, the major grain is corn. In Europe and North Africa, wheat, oats(燕麦)and barley are grown. In the tropical (热带的)regions of the world, many kinds of fruits grow naturally or are raised by man.

As man has learned more about plants and animals, man now uses modern methods to produce different kinds of food. However, there are still some areas in the world where plants and animals are raised in much the same ways as they were thousands of years ago.

  C. plants, animals, vegetables and fruits, etc. which grew naturally

  D. crops and plants which were raised by man

73. When man gradually learned ways to grow plants and raise animals, man_______.

  A. no longer depended on nature

  B. could control the natural conditions

  C. still depended on natural conditions, but not so much as before

  D. began to look down upon natural conditions

74. Which of the following statements is not true?

  A. Man knew how to produce foods and keep them at first.

If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them. If you don't, you may get lost. If you get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don't try to find your friends——let them find you. You can help them find you by staying in one place. There is another way to help your friends or other people to find you. You can shout or whistle(吹口哨)three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal(信号)given three times is a call for help.

Keep up shouting or whistling. Always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making a noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give you two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help.

If you don't think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house with branches(树枝). Make yourself a bed with leaves and grass.

When you need some water, you have to leave your little branch house to look for it. Don't just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk in order to go back again easily. When you are lost, the most important thing to do is to stay in one place.

76.If you get lost in the forest, you should________.

   A.try to find your friends

B.stay in one place and give signals

   C.walk around the forest

   D.shout as loudly as possible

77.Which signal is a call for help?

  A.shouting here and there

   B.crying twice

C.shouting or whistling three times together

   D.whistling everywhere in the forest

78.When you hear two shouts or two whistles, you know that________.

A.someone is afraid of an animal

B.people will come to help you

   C.someone needs help

   D.something terrible will happen

79.What's the meaning of the underlined sentence?

A.Leave branches to find your way back.

B.Pick off branches to build another house.

One possible version:

Recently we have had a heated discussion on whether people should keep pets at home in cities.

Some students think it's a good idea to keep pets because many old people who live alone at home can get some comfort from pets. Besides, getting along well with animals will make our life interesting. On the other hand, the other students are against the idea. In their opinions, if too many people keep pets at home, it is bad for the environment. What is worse, pets may make too much noise and even attack people.

I like animals, so I don't think it's bad to keep pets at home. But we must take some measures to prevent them from polluting our environment.
